When I had to say good-bye to radio, I was going to just let my blog go.... I can be the worst blogger in the world anyway...but I thought, no, maybe THIS, is the place we can connect and I can still say hello to my listeners, the most loyal listeners on the planet! Thank you for the letters, phone calls, msg's...I have gotten all of them. I am grateful and thankful for all of you. I miss you all so much!

I have a ton of stories to tell from the last month. It has been a difficult month, one of the hardest adjustments I have ever had to go through, but it has been one filled with peace....does that make sense? Can someone be at peace, but at the same time, having a hard life transition? The answer is yes. From spinal cord stimulator trials to walking on the beach with my husband, upcoming trips to Mexico and India, planning a wedding to having to take my dog out at 3am to 'take care of business', putting too much sugar in it....idiot drivers and general life, I can meet you here now, instead of on the radio and fill you in on whats been going on in my life and we can continue to share time together.... so come back often, leave me comments so I can hear from you also and get ready... here it comes I have tons I can't wait to tell you about!

Memorial Day~Catching Up

Memorial Day was a beautiful day and the service we went to was touching, beautiful and more than a few tears were shed as we remembered and honored our fallen. Memorial Day is much more than a three-day weekend that marks the beginning of summer.

To many people, especially the nation’s thousands of combat veterans, this day, which has a history stretching back all the way to the Civil War, is an important reminder of those who died in the service of their country. They died to preserve our freedom, our liberty and our special nation.

As I stood there during the service with my family, I felt blessed and sad at the same time. Sad for all of those families who have lost their loved ones during wartime. Especially with Jake having come home just a week prior from Afghanistan and Matthew in December, I shuddered knowing it very well could have been us laying a rose on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in remembrance of our sons. Honestly, it was a little tough for all of us, as the boys reflected on friends and brothers lost and us thinking about what could have been, but it was in great honor that we stood there shoulder to shoulder. Together.

The honor guards for the service were Justin and Jacob Guathier~twin brothers~that went to school with our kids and also have served our Country. Justin, a veteran, served in the USMC, his brother Jacob, is currently serving in the US Army. One by one wreaths were placed in remembrance of fallen soldiers and Marines. The US Coast Guard flew over and dropped a wreath into the water...it was beautiful and touching as they were saluted by those on land. The colors of the flags, the wreaths and what each stood for....the tears of mothers and fathers placing roses on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in memory of their sons and daughters and comrades remembering comrades. Memorial day is yes, more than a three day weekend for picnics and parties. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of this countries heroes, who have fought and given us the freedom to live in a great country such as ours. Let's not forget, ever, that it hasn't come free, but with the price being higher than some could imagine. Let us not ever forget that. Next Memorial Day, make sure you fly your flag in respect and honor of our fallen heroes. Stop and whisper, "thank you" and place your hand over your heart with pride and gratitude, for this day is for them. Our fallen heroes and we have much to thank them for.

What a Great 2 Weeks!

So I disappeared for a few weeks, but what a great 2 weeks I have had! Jake came home to Oregon and it was the 1st time his brother and sisters and I had seen him since he got home from Afghanistan the week before ~ Jerry had gone to North Carolina to meet him when he got off of the bus, but the rest of us weren't able to go. This was also the 1st time our whole family had all been together in the same place, at the same time, in almost 2 years! It was an exciting time at the airport. A lot of laughs, some tears and much thanks! Thanks again to all of you for your thoughts and prayers for our boys while they were deployed to Afghanistan this past year....please continue to keep our troops and their families in your prayers, until they all come home.

Two for Tuesday

Our Son Came Home From Afghanistan Today!

It's been a busy week! I was off from last Wednesday until today...moving. Can I just say, I hate moving! :) I love unpacking, but, packing and the move itself is never fun! Our moving days fell on the same days that our son, Jake, was supposed to come home from Afghanistan, so I wasn't able to fly to North Carolina with my husband and welcome him home. It broke my heart to not be there, but for him to be safely on US soil is an answer to many a prayer. Knowing he was coming home and out of Afghanistan also ended the many sleepless nights and free-flow of tears at the thought of him being in danger. This morning my husband kept me up to minute with text messages and pictures via text, so as best I could, I was able to see and keep up with what was happening, from his plane landing on US soil, to the busses arriving at USMC base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. As Jake got off the bus he hugged his dad, I was called, the phone handed to him and I heard his voice and got to welcome our boy home... I will get to finally put my arms around him next month. I can hardly wait. A warrior, a hero, our son. We are so very proud of him.

Mother's Day

What a great day! I love Mother's Day!

The weather was beautiful, which was a nice change with all of the rain we have had here on the coast! Sleeping in on Mother's Day, it was a nice surprise to here the front door swing open and hear, "Happy Mother's Day!" Our oldest daughter decided to come home for the day from college to spend Mother's Day with me! Our youngest daughter, Jodi brought flowers and visited too. I went to church with my mom and then we all got together for lunch at my mom and dad's, where my sister showed up also! A phone call from my son Matthew was a perfect addition to the day. A relaxing beautiful day, wrapped up with BBQ'd dinner by hubby....it was nice. I hope all of you also had a lovely Mother's Day.... I have always thought that being a mother has been the most important and enjoyable gift I have been given in life.

Welcome Home Coming Again...

Marine Corp and Troops coming home is about all that has been on my mind. Our son Jake is due to return from Afghanistan in the next 7-10 days. He is a sniper with the USMC 2/2 and it has been entirely too long since we have seen his smile, put our arms around him or heard his laugh~when he steps foot on American soil, we will all sigh a huge sigh of relief and give thanks to the good Lord above..... Below is a photo of our son, Matthew, hugging his sister, Jodi, after returning from his deployment (in December 2009) to Afghanistan with the USMC 1/5....with both of the boys deployed at the same time, I think we all squeezed Matthew extra tight when he walked out on that deck.

Rest in Peace

....and with every homecoming, there are those who don't come home, but to be laid to rest. Who gave the ultimate price for our great Country. A friend of our son, memorialized a 'brother' who lost his life in Afghanistan while they were deployed...this was one of the first things he did after he got home.... Rest in Peace David.

Pure Love

This is a sight I will never forget. Our son meeting his daughter again after 9 months. He was deployed when she was a month old. Here, she is 10 months old and a whole lot different than when her daddy left!...unexplainable love.

1) I came across this picture today and with the 60th Loyalty Day Parade coming up in a few days over in Long Beach I thought I'd post it... here I am in my crazy 'peacock' hat (that I hated!) many years ago in a parade, representing Denmark for the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival, as Jr Miss Denmark. 1977. WHO? Doesn't love a parade!? This Sunday I will be broadcasting a parade for the first time ever, with our News Director, Michael Desmond. I am looking forward to it. Long Beach, here we come!

2) It was supposed to be sunny today. It wasn't. It was rainy and cloudy all day! Just saying... I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind and bring us REAL Spring weather!

3) Tomorrow is the first day of May! My brother, Niels's, birthday! Here he is with his wife Allison.... I am sure mom will have cake and coffee at her house to celebrate! Yummy...mom's cake! Happy birthday big brother!

4) I think I have an unhealthy, abnormal love of coffee.... a random thought I know, but my eyes keep trying to close and my brain is screaming... COFFEE!

5) Well, I didn't quite get to 5, but 4 is good.. Happy Friday Friends and Happy May Day!

1) I know...I can go on and on about how beautiful this area is! This is the foot bridge out at Ft Stevens...I can't count how many times we passed under this bridge last year going to explore the beach and/or many trails!

3) Harry Glickman came to the studio to chat about the Blazers Basketball Camp in our area and was a joy to talk with! A lifetime full of stories...to hear only a few of them was an honor. Glickman is considered the "father" of professional sports in Oregon. Here he is with myself and Antonio Harvey, former Trail Blazer, who was currently in his third season as radio analyst for the Portland Trail Blazers.

She's Sweet and thoughtful. Genuine and fun....and of course, talented. Who doesn't love this: Taylor surprised a few college students who had a mission. To get a hug from her. She heard about their website, twitter page and facebook page and responded! She put them up to some challenges, which they took above and beyond to impress her.... Their website, A Hug from Taylor Swift , explains it all....fast forward~ They ended up getting their hugs... check out this video ~ I love it!

2) My Favorite Taylor Video....

This is one of my favorite Taylor Swift videos...in bed with her mom, watching the nomination announcments for the CMA awards and she got her first nomination for Entertainer of the Year...I can't watch this without tearing up.....everytime. She's just a regular kid~(young woman)...with a spectacular opportunities.

A Most Favorite 1 of 5!

I chatted with my son on the internet today and saw pictures! Getting to see his smile for the first time since he was deployed last year was wonderful~ Jake comes home from Afghanistan next month~ Our USMC scout sniper... we are so very proud of him.

2) My Namesake...Yes, a Chick...Princess Sonja

My sister, Ann, texted me this photo today and it said, "Meet one of our new chicks. Her name is Princess Sonja- after you dear sister...." A white crested hen chicken. She will grow to be a beautiful. My sister is a city girl and lives in Portland, Oregon, but her backyard is a farmyard of fun! Chickens, ducks, a rabbit, a garden and more~quite a city farm!

3) A ride on the Trolly

Old 300~Astoria's Riverfront Trolly what a great ride and day! My husband's dad and his wife came to visit yesterday and we don't get to see them often, so it was a definite treat and blessing to see them! We decided to eat some lunch and play it by ear...We went to Rollin' Thunder BBQ had some great southern BBQ and we heard the bell of the trolly! We decided to jump aboard and were so happy we did! 'Bear' was on board playing conductor and he was hysterical ! As we rode along the waterfront and historical areas were pointed out, jokes were told and 'Bear' even led the group of riders in a few fun songs, that were, yes, corny, but fun! 'If You're Happy and You Know it' was belted out by all aboard, followed by a good round of 'B-I'N-G-O'. The trolly is such a wonderful addition to our community and for a dollar a ride or 2 dollars for all day of jumping on and off, you can't beat it! Be sure to take 45 minutes out of your day for an afternoon relaxing ride on occasion, but for sure, it's a must if you have company visiting Astoria or the surrounding area!

4) A Drive Out Hwy 202

After our lunch and trolly ride, we headed home for a nap and headed back out again for a drive. Jerry Sr and Sue (my in-laws) haven't spent time here in many years and both love the outdoors, so a drive seemed appropriate! We stopped at waterfalls, we saw elk, deer, birds of all kinds and just spent the evening laughing and catching up. I can never say too many times, what a beautiful area we live in. Get out there and explore it!

5) Crab Festival Time!

It's Astoria/Warrenton Crab, Seafood and Wine Festival time of the year again! I'll be broadcasting again this year from the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, for 'locals night' of the Crab Fest...! This is always a time of the year to see old friends and have a bit of fun~in fact, I have lot's to do, so I've gotta get going! See you there and have a wonderful; weekend everyone!

Exploring Our Own Backyard

Warrenton, Oregon boasts a ton of trails and amazing parks! Beautiful places that my husband and I explore a lot! Walk, ride your bike or walk your dog~Here is one of the many trails we went on last year. It was a nice sunny day and the view was fantastic. Looking out to the Columbia River, while resting on a bench it was a nice quiet place to reconnect after a long week. I encourage anyone to start exploring the many paths and trails that our communities offer. I find myself needing a vacation sometimes or I have hard a hard day and all I have to do is drive a few miles, ride my bike or walk to some of the most historic, beautiful places that people come from all over the world to see~ and it's right here in our backyard.

I Became Grandma

Macie Jane was born March 5th, 2009~ Our first grandbaby, she is a joy. This picture was taken in April 2010, when she was here visiting her MeeMaw (me) and PawPaw. She was climbing all around and was on the verge of walking. Becoming a grandma at 40 years old thrilled me to pieces. While many of my friends are just now having children or have just started their families, I am getting to enjoy the blessing of grandchildren~ They say the reward for not killing your own children in their teenage years, is grandchildren ~ haha. I think they may be right! Macie Jane is a blessing to us and has us all wrapped around that tiny pinky of hers!

Disneyland! The Happiest Place On Earth!

When we went to California in December of '09 to welcome our son, Matthew home from Afghanistan, we had to hit Disneyland! We took our daughters, Jessi and Jodi, and headed on our way. I must say~ It truly is a magical place! It was Christmas Eve when we went and I felt like a little kid. Main St was decorated with garlands and lights, music was playing and I saw the biggest Christmas tree I think I have ever seen. A day of fun and laughs with our daughters created memories to last a lifetime. The end of the night was spectacular and a must for every child and grown up to see. The castle lit up to a music, light and fireworks show and because it was Christmas, it SNOWED...yes, snowed on Main St. It looked real~ it felt real~ but anywhere in California besides Disneyland's Main St. it was about 80 degrees out! I could ramble for days about every moment spent in Disneyland~ It truly is magical! A definite highlight of 2009!

1 ~ I will be trying to my nephew how to ride his bike with no training wheels this weekend!

2 ~ As I write this, I swear I am starving, but I think it's because I just bought some 50% off certificates during our morning 1/2 off mini auction sale here at the station.... great deals.

I paid $25 for a $50 certificate to the Longbeach Lighthouse & Columbia Bar. Love this place. Great food and service. Last time my husband and I ate there, I had steamer clams and he had steak..perfectly done! 4 stories up on the ocean in Longbeach, Washington, the view is spectacular! I also got a certificate for Ilwaco's Imperial Schooner and Rollin' Thunder BBQ in Astoria! I have never been to either of those places, but I will be sure to let you know how they are! Now I am really hungry. Hmmm...what's for lunch? Probably Grilled Cheese and tomato soup. I can't use those certificates without my husband...can I? Well, I could, but that wouldnt be very nice now would it!

3 ~ Tom Freel is coming in to do my show with me this afternoon. He is the voice of our sister station KAST 1370am, news and talk. (he is also my boss...well, one of them) Here's a random thought~I think we should have a Tom Freel Roast....how fun would that be? We could sell tickets, have a dinner... a community event...all in good fun of course! *laughing~loudly* I have worked with this guy for a gagillion years and I know he would be a good sport...way better than I would ever be!

4 ~ Movies. I think a movie would be fun to goto this weekend...

5 ~ and the ACM Awards! Yay! I love the ACM Awards. So much fun .

DANCING IN THE OCEAN

One of my favorite pictures from last year and there are plenty! Dancing in the ocean at sunset! This does wonders for the soul~and the funny bone. This was this past December (2009) in San Clemente, California. Our girls, Jessi & Jodi, welcomed their brother, Matthew, home from Afghanistan and only a few months earlier said goodbye to their brother, Jake, as he was also deployed to Afghanistan with the USMC.

GREAT PLACE FOR A PICNIC

What a beautiful area we live in! This is on the bluff at Fort Columbia on the Washington side of the Columbia River. There are so many areas right here in our own communities to discover and see! With the economy the way it has been stay-cations and staying close to home has gotten popular among locals...myself included! This is a lovely place for a picnic on a sunny day!

Terri Clark performs at the Liberty Theater! Another great concert in Eagle Country was enjoyed by a full Liberty Theater! With over a half a dozen albums under her sparkly belt, Terri has had a great deal of success in country music. Being a native of Canada, Terri has been certified platinum in both Canada and the United States and has produced several top ten hits. Terri was a lot of fun to chat with backstage and was a joy to watch onstage.

Ok! Sooo~ I'm back~ I think. :) The last time I 'blogged' was a year ago and I have decided to try to be a good little blogger and add a little something at least once a week! There is so much that goes on in the country world of music and here at the station that I shouldn't run out of things to chat about...and if you want to read it, well, I'll share! I hope this year has brought you great things so far and continues to... so onto my um-teenth try at blogging, here we go! Welcome back!

Sissi's 40,000 Calorie, 20lb Brownie Cake

Seriously...we counted. My sister made this cake for my 5 year old nephew's birthday party this weekend.........and they ate it all!

8 boxes Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix
(use-9x13 cake pan , 2 boxes per layer)
Spray pan with Pam (non-stick spray) Line brownie pan with parchment paper, pour in prepared brownie mix and cook as directed, set aside and let cool.

Prepare filling:
Ganach: In a food processor finely chop 2 ½, 11.5oz bags of ghirardelli bittersweet dark chocolate. Heat 2 ¾ cups of heavy whipping cream until just boiling (pay close attention not to burn) While processor is running with chocolate still in it, pour hot cream into chocolate and blend well, as chocolate melts, consistency will be of a light pudding. Set aside and allow to cool until consistency is that of frosting.

Start assembling cake.

Brownie Layer, ganach, brownie layer, ganache, until finished.

Top layer may be finished with ganache, Butter cream frosting or frosting of of choice.

Yum. :)

Five for Friday

1) Easter is Sunday. To some it is about beautifully colored eggs and assortments of yummy chocolate and candy treats... little ones running and searching for hidden treasures in Easter egg hunts all over the country. To some Easter is a celebration of the day Jesus was resurrected from the dead, three days after his crucifixion... dressing in their finest clothing and feasting with friends and/or family.......To some it is a combination of both. Whatever Easter is to you and your family, Have a beautiful day on Sunday!

2) I will be welcoming my husband home after his visit with our son, our daughter-in-law and our new grandbaby, Macie Jane. Our son being in the USMC, is getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan....it has been a great visit for Jerry with the kids, but it will be nice to have him home.

3) It's rainy and windy...again! I think April didn't get the memo, that it was Spring!

4) It's been a long week and it's great to see the weekend arrive. A time to rest and recharge.

5) ...well, I almost made it to five! This Friday, there you have it..4 for Friday! Have a wonderful weekend friends.

When Julianne came to Astoria she had already recieved the ACM Award for 2009 Top New female Vocalist of the year and was up for the ACM award for 2009's Top New Artist. Great News for Julianne! Last night, she walked away with the ACM for Top New Artist!

Friday Random Five

1. The Weather is supposed to be nice! Windows and doors open and fresh spring air reaching every corner of the house is something I just love. It puts me in the mood to spring clean!

2. The ACM awards is being broadcast on Sunday night on CBS. You can't pry me away from the TV set on award show nights! The performances are, almost always, great...the clothes are amazing and it all touches that 'little girl' in me that promised herself, someday she would be on that stage in a 'blue sequins dress'. Well....... she didn't exactly make it to the awards show stage, but many a dream has come true and life IS a stage...right? :)

3. We have been busy here at the radio station cleaning and throwing stuff away! It's almost moving day! We have a brand new, amazing, building that is almost done being built and is almost ready for us to move into! The new building is in Warrenton and it is going to be a treat to work in such a nice facility that will be welcoming to all who enter!

4. Daffodils. Such pretty flowers. Someone gave me a bunch of them today. It made me smile.

5. April. Can you believe it? April 2009. Our son gets deployed at the end of this month...to Afghanistan with the 1-5 in the USMC. When I see a woman or man in uniform, I thank them for their service. If I meet someone and I find out that they have served or are currently serving in our Armed Forces, I thank them for their service. I fly the American Flag everyday... it's going to be a tough day, the day our son leaves to fight for our country...but we are proud of him and what he stands for. I know God will keep him safe.

With surprise appearances by Peter Frampton and Steppenwolf's John Kay, the Sony Music Nashville extravaganza aboard the General Jackson showboat Thursday, March 5th, lived up to its reputation of being the single most star-spangled event of Country Radio Seminar. The General Jackson floated celebrants up and down the Cumberland River in Nashville for the three-hour show....I was fortunate to be there and it was amazing. The internal 'wow' moments for me were many! The talent that was in the room that night was beyond fantastic. Having earned my living as a singer, performer, for most of my life, before getting into radio, it was exciting to experience every piece of some of country's biggest hits and soon to be hits.... from the lyrics to the artist and everything in between....

Facing an audience of approximately 650 radio and music industry guests, Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride, Brad Paisley, Gretchen Wilson and Jason Michael Michael Carroll performed selections from their forthcoming albums. Carrie Underwood, Montgomery Gentry and Craig Morgan reprised recent hits, and Kellie Pickler and Chuck Wicks chatted with the show's host, TV personality Robin Meade, about their non-musical sidelines. Oh, and I can't forget to tell you about Peter Frampton and John Kay literally rockin' the boat with their explosive hits... keep reading...

We had a very nice dinner on the boat and I had to take a picture of the fruit! Look at it! Small town girls like me love that kind of thing. I was also lucky to have the seat I did for the show....front and center. It just happened that way, being with some friends, who knew friends, who had 4 seats open up and asked us if we would like them...uhhh...absolutly! They were the best seats in the house! I had to look up when Brad Paisley put his foot on the monitor while he jammed on his guitar...nice.

Kenny Chesney went on first, accompanied by his friend and songwriting partner, Brett James. He opened with "Out Last Night," which he indicated was a more-or-less accurate chronicle of his and James' nocturnal roarings. It will be his next single. The song was so new, Chesney had to sing it from a lyric sheet. Even so, he faltered a couple of times -- not that it mattered at all to any of us listening! It was fun to hear something new, something that will be coming our direction soon.

(When we arrived at the General Jackson earlier in the evening, no one knew for sure who would be there performing, but there were some of us that thought Kenny had to be there for sure. He is such a huge country star and half of the Nashville Police Depeartment was there providing security, so we thought with that kind of security he must be there... he was.)

With James taking the vocal lead, Chesney provided harmonies on "When the Sun Goes Down," Chesney's No. 1 single from 2004. (James wrote the song and even recorded it on an album for Arista Records that was never released.) "I wanted to be the first," Chesney told the crowd, "so I could come out afterward and have a few drinks."

He, like most of the other acts, was limited to two songs. At the end of Chesney's set, Sony Music Nashville chief Joe Galante presented him with a crystal plaque for having achieved 15 million downloads. That feat, Galante pointed out, made him the biggest digital-selling artist in the country format!

Martina McBride followed Kenny Chesney with her new single, "Ride," from her album, 'Shine', that came out March 24. She concluded with another new song, "I Just Call You Mine," which she belted out as if she were heralding the Second Coming and I am not even kidding!

Maritna was getting ready to exit the stage, when Joe Galante gave McBride a plaque marking her career total of 18 million albums sold.... can you imagine? It was nice to see Martina honored and so thankful for the milestone in her career.

Montgomery Gentry came next. The duo began with its most recent hit, "Roll With Me," and then brought out John Kay to roll back memories with Steppenwolf's 1968 classic, "Born to Be Wild." His feverishly commanding performance earned the evening's first standing ovation. It was SOoo rockin'! It was hard to stay seated as they jammed.

While the stage set was being changed -- each act brought its own band or backing musicians -- Pickler chatted with Robin Meade about her endorsement deal with Big Sexy Hair and of co-writing her current single, "Best Days of Your Life," with pal Taylor Swift. Kellie said she's already done the photo shoot for the Big Sexy Hair advertising campaign and that the promotion will launch next month.

She and Swift came up with "Best Days of Your Life," Pickler reported, in response to one of Pickler's thwarted romances. "We wrote the song about a pig I used to date," the singer said with her usual forthrightness. "He was an a******." She really is Dolly Parton re-incarnate. She is bubbly, cute and that girl can sing! She says things out loud that alot of us just wish we had the nerve to say aloud!

During a later set change, Chuck Wicks told Meade about the intimate "pelvis-to-pelvis" choreographic instruction Julianne Hough, his girlfriend and fellow recording artist, gave him for their upcoming appearances on Dancing With the Stars. Chuck having just been here in Eagle Country is a favorite of mine....he really is as innocent and cute as he appears. He makes me smile and I wish there were more 'good' boys like him! Oh, but wait! If that were true, Kellie Pickler and Taylor would have alot less to write about!

When guests first seated themselves at their dinner tables, they saw at each place setting a pair of two-and-a-half inch hoop earrings attached to a card that read, "She's back."The "she," it turned out, was Gretchen Wilson. When she came out to sing, the reason for the teaser gift became apparent. Her first song -- and next single -- was "Don't Make Me Take My Earrings Out," a combative song somewhat on the order of Loretta Lynn's "Fist City."

Gretchen said she's been hard at work on her next album at the studio she built on her farm. This time around, she's working with producer Blake Chancey. Her final song was "As Far as You Know," a pulsating yowl, which she warned the radio programmers might be a bit too "heavy" for their purposes. It was good to see Gretchen again...even though she still scares me a bit! She reminds me of that girl in school that you knew, could and would, kick you rear-end if you crossed them...yikes! Seriously, she sounded great and it was nice to see her back....the earrings? I gave them to my daughter, even though I can't see her wearing them, they came from Gretchen. Good enough.

Craig Morgan, who made his bow as a new Sony artist on last year's boat show, sang only one song, "God Must Really Love Me." It's from his first BNA album, That's Why.

Jason Michael Carroll gave one of the show's most dynamic performances via two new songs: "Where I'm From" and "That's All I Know." They're from his second Arista album, Growing Up Is Getting Old, which is set for release on April 28....I LIKE this kid. He has 5 children of his own, looks like he's 15 years old and just rocks. I ran into him throughout the week and he was just nice, nice, nice...and that voice!

Jason and Robin Meade bantered about growing up as the children of preachers. He said that when he was 15, his father caught him with a "pirated copy" of "Achy Breaky Heart" hidden under his mattress and spanked him for the transgression. Jason said it was the spanking of a lifetime!

Carrie Underwood scorched the room opening with, "Flat on the Floor," and then immediately cooled things down with her mournful rendition of the Randy Travis standard, "I Told You So."

Joe Galante gifted her with a trophy for having sold 10 million copies of her first two albums during the four years since she won the American Idol competition. "I can't process all the things that have happened these past four years," she marveled. (She even shed a tiny tear.)

To celebrate her achievement, she invited everyone to join her at a bowling party after the show was over. I did go with my buddies and it was alot of fun ...I posted about that earlier Bowling With Carrie Underwood ....

Next, Brad Paisley ambled out on stage and sat down patiently while co-host Tom Baldrica introduced him. His first song was the wistful, reflective, song Brad had NEVER performed in public called "Then." It was neat that he saved that for us.......He followed it with the decidedly more upbeat "American Saturday Night," which, he told the crowd, is the title cut of his impending album. The CD will be out June 30.

Brad Paisley was funny and sweet. In between songs, he told us that it was nervewracking for him to perform infront of all of us....he laughed and announced that his wife was due in a few weeks with their new baby and told us that we are the obstetricians of country music. It was cute...Brad Paisley a little nervous?? His singing and picking came across just fine, in Brad Paisley style.

Baldrica brought Peter Frampton out to close the show -- and he did so in grand style. Opening with a guitar solo that sent tidal waves of sound across the room, he then called Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood out to accompany him on his 1976 smash, "Baby, I Love Your Way." Powered as it was by a potent mix of nostalgia and urgent vocals, the performance brought the crowd to its feet.

Mr.Frampton lamented that he couldn't afford to take McBride and Underwood with him on his tour this summer....

The rocker finished his set with another hit from 1976, "Do You Feel Like We Do," and beckoned Brad Paisley to join him in a wild electric guitar jam. This earned him his second standing ovation, just as the General Jackson returned to the dock.

With an amazing night of performances, food and being surrounded by some of the most talented musicians in the country, my night wasn't over! I needed to get on the phone....while Peter Frampton was jamming with Brad Paisley I got a text saying that I was 'officially a grandma!' Our son had just welcomed his new baby daughter into the world. Macie Jane. 8lbs, 10oz.....I would make that call, en-route to the bowling alley........ Carrie Underwood was taking some of us bowling!

Josh Gracin to Come to Eagle Country!

I haven't had the opportunity to meet Josh Gracin yet, but I have always really liked his music. I am excited to announce that he will be here for one show in May! Julianne's concert will be this Friday night and we're excited that it is sold out. Concert week is always a little crazy busy, but fun busy! I'm looking forward to seeing so many of you this weekend. Bring a little extra cash and get your Josh tickets at the Julianne concert. Even though it was pouring down rain in Astoria this morning, Spring began today at 7:44 a.m!

Spring is one of my favorite seasons...with Spring, comes the promise of flowers blooming, gray clouds turning to sunshine days......warmth.....new life....amazing and glorious!

I remember one special spring morning so clearly...it was after a long, rainy, especially gray winter here on the Pacific NW Coast. My dad came for a morning cup of coffee. We sat outside and visited. Listened to the birds and after a bit he grabbed a broom, started sweeping the porch and said, "there is nothing better than the first wisk of a broom in spring, to lift one's spirits."

I loved that.

While I was in Nashville for the Country Radio Seminar, it was exciting to hear first-hand, the announcments for Top New Artists from the Academy of Country Music. Julianne Hough, Jake Owen and Zac Brown Band all received new artist awards on Friday, March 6th. The awards were voted on by fans through GACTV.com.

Julianne Hough, who will be here in Astoria, March 27th for a sold out show at the Libery Theater, was named top new female vocalist. Jake Owen was named top new male vocalist and the Zac Brown Band was named top new vocal duo or group.

The three artists will now compete for overall top new artist during the live telecast of the ACM Awards on April 5 on CBS. The winner will be determined by fan voting.

Merle Haggard received the prestigious Career Achievement Award from the Country Radio Broadcasters March 3rd, honoring his long and epic career. I was lucky enough to be able to attend... the room was full of talent, legends and pure country....

Recovering from a bout with lung cancer, Haggard was happy to be able to attend. After conveying his appreciation, Haggard also admitted he still harbored some resentment against his former label, Epic Records. Following a performance of his hit, 'Kern River' by Emmylou Harris who recalled that the first time she heard the song she "almost drove off the road because it's just so good," Haggard reminded the audience of how that song almost missed the light of day.

"I want to say that there was this other guy -- I can't remember his name -- he was head of CBS, and he made fun of my song. He said, 'Who in the hell knows where Kern River is at?'" Reminded by someone in the audience that it was former president of CBS Records, Rick Blackburn, Haggard recalled the exchange of words the two had more than 20 years ago."I'd like to tell you one more time. I don't like 'Kern River.'

Haggard continued, "And I said, 'That's about the third time you've told me that.' He said, 'It's more like five times.' And I said, 'Well, I'm about five times short of telling you to go to hell.".......Merle had the entire room in laughter. I don't think anyone was surprised at his, cut-through-the-bull candor! After all, he is Merle Haggard. He shared some other 'thoughts' that I won't repeat here, but let me tell you it was all in 'Merle' style.

Five for Friday

1) It's a beautiful day. Even though I know rain is in the forecast for this weekend, the blue sky sure can lift the spirits! It's a reminder that nicer weather is coming!

2) I still have all kinds of things swimming around in my head after such a fantastic trip to Nashville. We learned so much and I am hoping to bring that to you! Implementing new things in my show and on the website will be ways for us to get closer and be more interactive with each other...I enjoy hearing from you and making a difference in your day.

3) I am excited for TJ Auto's Anniversary party next week! The Eagle Country Cafe will be on the road to TJ's next week, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from Noon-1pm. Tim, Trina, Lori, TJ and the crew have been a large part of this community for 19 years. You'll have the opportunity to win a $200 gift card and other prizes, so be sure to listen and stop by TJ's next week. They'll even be blowing up a car!

4) Since it is Friday, which means the weekend is here, it's propably time for me to unpack my luggage from Nashville! Am I the only one who hates unpacking? I love packing to go....neat, tidy, organized...then when it's time to come home it all gets shoved in the suitcase and waits for me to dive in, put it all away, do the laundry and put the suitcases away for another year! Echhh!

I was going to wait to chat about this, but since an article just came out on CMT's 'The Boot', I thought I'd share it. I was one of the lucky one's to be there... it was a super night. We chatted and laughed, I couldn't bowl, thanks to my aching back (grrr) but, I visited with my radio buddies, Carrie and folks from Arista records. Did you know Carrie can eat an entire medium pizza to herself? That's what she says! She munched on popcorn, bowled like a champ and was very pleasant. Our lane was right next to hers and it was just a nice finish to the General Jackson Riverboat Cruise we had just been on with her and several other artists. I added a few pictures of the night, in addition to the article from 'The Boot' ...

CARRIE HITS THE LANES

Everyone knows Carrie Underwood can belt out a tune, but she recently proved she's no slouch when it comes to bowling either. The country superstar invited some of the country's top disc jockeys to join her for some fun at Nashville's Pla-Mor Lanes last week, just after her performance on General Jackson riverboat cruise honoring radio programmers from across the country.

"I thought it would be fun, and it's a more personal way to spend time with some of my friends in radio and say thanks for all they do for me," Underwood told The Boot in between hurling a 10-pound pink ball down the lanes.

Country radio staffers from all over the nation were in Nashville for the annual Country Radio Seminar, a conference filled with panel discussions, interviews, cocktail parties and tons of great concerts. Following the riverboat cruise, an annual event held by Sony/BMG Nashville, radio personnel went straight to the bowling alley, getting a chance to hang with Underwood -- taking pictures, getting autographs, and of course seeking a few strikes.

Dressed in jeans, white shirt and a black vest, the singer showed good form and shared a few laughs with the radio and record company folks. Her bowling pals signed a new bowling pin to provide their hostess a souvenir from the evening. "This is more fun for me," she told The Boot, confessing that she suffers from motion sickness and usually gets queasy during the annual riverboat excursion. "I am wristband free this year," she said earlier in the evening while still on the boat, referring to the wristbands she has generally worn to combat motion sickness. "I took a couple of Dramamine and I'm feeling good. The General Jackson is not going to get the best of me!

After her performance, Sony Music executives presented Underwood with a huge plaque commemorating sales of 10 million CDs of her debut album, 'Some Hearts' and her sophomore effort, 'Carnival Ride.' She lost her composure, tears flowing as she thanked those in attendance for their support. "I feel like we should celebrate and when I want to celebrate, I go bowling," Carrie told the crowd, inviting them to join her for some fun on dry land.

I was packed and ready to go! Finally! After a few unexpected bumps in the road...and a few near breakdowns! I did something that was just stupid... which happens quite often, but this was a topper. So it's Monday night and time to confirm my flight. After all, I'm booked to fly out of Portland at 6:30am on the morning flight. This of course, means that my husband will be driving me there after he gets off work at Midnight...sure, I'll sit in the airport awhile, but that's fine. He'll drop me off and go rest at a friends house, then get back on the road to get back to the Sheriff's Department for overtime...it'll be a long day for him. So, online I type in all of the info and try to confirm my flight...none of the numbers match? What? Alright. TUESDAY, the 3rd of MARCH...it's all correct, so I get on the phone. Turns out, that TUESDAY, the 3rd of FEBRUARY has already passed and my flight left a month ago! ...I was sick to my stomach.

How? Could this happen? Well it did. I booked my flight for MARCH, but when the confirmation email came from Expedia, I saw, Tuesday, 3rd... just a quick look, missed the fact that it was a MONTH off. So, at 10pm on Monday night I had to book a flight for the following morning at the tune of $550.00. NOT the previous $216.00 that I had already paid and LOST. In these economic times, this was NOT a good thing, but my husband was gracious and said, 'we'll figure it out...stop crying, it'll be ok'. Wow. SO. With the help of a friend, a major meltdown, new ticket purchased and husband home ready to take off, Here's a picture of me, headed to the airport. On my way. Finally!

Welcome to my Eagle's Nest on the web! It's been a few years since I have been here, but I decided to revive the old blog. There is always so much I'd like to share with you, that I thought the old blog would be the perfect place! Feel free to go back and read from years ago. (I did!) ...and come back daily for a little of "this and that" from The Nest!

To get me 'back in the groove' I'll start off blogging about my trip to Nashville last week!

I attended the 40th Annual Country Radio Seminar. It's where radio programmers and executives from throughout the nation convene at the Nashville Convention Center every year. The event features an extensive array of panel discussions and music events designed to keep broadcasters informed on the latest developments in country music and the radio industry.

Tim McGraw and Friends performed with an array of great performances on Opening night. CRS closed Friday night with the New Faces show featuring 20-minute performances by emerging artists Kellie Pickler, The Zac Brown Band, James Otto, Chuck Wicks and Lady Antebellum. In between, there were performances by artists such as Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, to only name a few. New artists and country superstars all gathered together for 4 days and nights packed full of music and fun. During the day Radio programmers and on-air talent were busy attending seminar panels. As a precursor to CRS, several award recipients were honored by the Country Radio Broadcasters at the Country Music DJ and Radio Hall of Fame dinner and awards ceremony. Merle Haggard received the organization's Career Achievement award, with performances by Emmylou Harris and Jack Ingram.

I can't wait to tell you all about it! From funny to heart touching, I have so many stories to share with you! From bowling with Carrie Underwood, to Kenny Chesney making history, Faith Hills shoes, Kellie's zipper, Darius Rucker's new life (thanks to you), to Brad Paisley's new song and me becoming a grandma while I was in Nashville! Yes, a grandma! So...there's my first post! and off we go............ I hope you enjoy!

Loyal EAGLE listener, Peggy Crom and her family lose their home in HWY 30 landslide... They had started to clean up and re-built their lives after last week's storms, only to lose it all anyway....

Yesterday while broadcasting the EAGLE COUNTRY CAFE, live, from Lum's Auto in Astoria, I was informed by Tom Freel of our sister station, KAST AM, that HWY 30 was closed, due to a landslide. I relayed what information we had concerning HWY closures and alternate routes, to our listeners. I was about ready to wrap up the show, when I received a call at Lum's. When I answered the phone, I heard a voice on the other end that stated, "that landslide on highway 30 wasn't just a landslide, it's our house in the middle of the road." It was Ian talking… Ian and Peggy longtime listeners of the EAGLE. Ian went on to tell me that a log jam gave way and that the debris and water behind it, completely washed away their home. He also wanted us to pass along to our listeners, that motorist's were being turned around at Westport due to the massive slide and a gas leak.... His mom and dad were ok. He was too. Thank God. My heart broke for Ian and his family.

It was only Monday morning that Ian's mom, Peggy, stopped by to show me pictures of the devastation their home sustained during the Coastal Storm last week. I had looked at the pictures in awe and again, was reminded how little damage my home had sustained, even with some broken windows and much of my roof missing. Peggy's pictures showed a home full of water and mud. Vehicles in water up to the windows. My heart went out to them then and now, I am speechless...

Peggy, her husband and her son, Ian, are hard working, every day people. Even though they have struggled themselves, they have gone out of their way to help others. Last year they donated over 100 cans of food to a food drive the EAGLE was helping promote. They have been donating again, this year, to the same food drive.

Peggy and Ian, are regular listeners and callers to the EAGLE COUNTRY CAFE. An all request lunch hour on The EAGLE...... I got a kick out of Ian calling in one day especially... he had gotten new speakers in his truck and had to 'try them out'.! He asked me to play some, 'rock’ in country songs'.... I played him one, but then people kept calling in all hour, dedicating songs to Ian. Songs THEY thought would be good for Ian to play, nice and loud, through those new speakers!

This past year, Peggy and Ian were thrilled when they won tickets and backstage passes to the Jason Aldean Concert sponsored by the EAGLE. Truly thankful, it was great to see them have such a good time.

Peggy and Ian deliver newspapers in the early mornings. During stormy and icy weather, along with other EAGLE listeners, Peggy and Ian call in to let me know of dangerous road conditions, concerned for others and their safety. I pass along that information to our listeners and it has been another show of how our listeners, come together and watch out for each other.

Coming together…something our Community has done especially well this past week when we all had to ride out the devastating storms. We’ve checked on our neighbors, families and friends... we've come together to share bits and pieces of information in hopes of helping others. Even our NNB crew here at the station, not only worked together as a team, but as a family.

I ask you during this time in your prayers, include Peggy, Ian and their family… I watched the news last night with breath held, at the coverage of the HWY 30 landslide ……again…watching mother natures fury.

Reflections of Christmas..and Thanks

Oh, my it has been a long time since I have written. I promise to do better! SO much has gone on in the past 6 months!

I listen to Christmas songs, as it gets busy here at the station and enjoy getting the EAGLE's list of Christmas songs ready to play each year. I truly feel Christmas spirit is captured and passed along, perfectly, in song. Through the words and music we hear, with humor, dreams of home and family, songs about the birth of Christ and just good old, feel good, Santa songs. Fun songs. Christmas songs hold so much and I LOVE that!

We get ready for the holidays and I tend to reflect on a lifetime of Christmas memories. SO many of the my memories aren't about gifts bought from the store. They are precious memories of family, friends, the smells and traditions of Christmas. My 'song' of the holidays. the past present and future.

My most vivid memory is of my dad reading the Christmas story every year from the Bible. He also, would read us the story of The Little Match Girl. A tale by Hans Christian Anderson. This story succeeded, in relating to us, as children, how BLESSED we truly were. Christmas was NOT about how many presents someone got. It was about each other.

The Little Match Girl is the story of a little girl who has to sell matches, because her family needs the money. She instead uses the matches, one by one, to stay warm, until there are no more...a poor little girl, bareheaded, and with naked feet, in the cold on a dark street. She crept along trembling with cold and hunger--a very picture of sorrow. What was it like after all to look into a window and see the warmth and laughter of a family together at Christmas? To this day, I find myself peering out my window into the darkness and envision the little girl...it brings me to a place of true thankfulness.

Days will go by and just as I start to 'slip', in remembering to be thankful, it seems I am reminded, of what Christmas should be TRULY about. Whether it's something my child has said or some act of kindness I observe, it's always just as I start to feel bad about not being able to BUY this or that, having focused on what Christmas ISN'T about, even if only for a moment.

I am brought to the realization, someone ALWAYS has it worse and we must be thankful for what we DO have and try to give to those that don't. Even a smile, can do wonders. After all, a smile is free and something always welcomed this time of the year!

This year, I was shown the beauty of giving, by our EAGLE listeners. One listener especially. We have been collecting non-perishable food items for TJ Auto Repair's Annual Christmas food drive. TJ's helps feed families each year. This year on the eve of Thanksgiving, A woman heard us on the radio talking about feeding families and asking our listeners for their help. We did the show from TJ's. I left and later that night received a phone call from Katrina at TJ's. She said she had to share what happened after I left and wanted to pass along the Thanksgiving cheer.

A man had stopped by TJ's, for his sister, Liz. Liz didn't want to wait until Christmas to help...She sent her brother to TJ's with not only a turkey for a family in need, but everything to go with it! The turkey, stuffing, salt & pepper, the roasting pan, foil. EVERYTHING needed to prepare and have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal! This act of kindness was so touching... especially after I heard the rest of the story..

Katrina called the Women's resource Center, who was thrilled for the phone call. Apparently, they had already dispersed the donations they received to families in need. BUT they had received a phone call from a women that morning, who was in tears. This woman had 3 young children and no meal for Thanksgiving. The women's Resource Center took her number, just in case. Because of this ONE EAGLE listener's thoughtfulness and generosity, The woman and her children were contacted and received the Thanksgiving meal and everything to prepare it with!

Who knows where peoples paths in life takes them, or what things change a heart. Maybe this act of kindness meant more than anyone of us will know, to this mother. Possibly, giving her a new faith in people or a renewed spirit of the holidays? One thing in which I am confident. This woman, no matter where her life is, or the daily struggles she has, for a day, a moment, she could enjoy peace. She could watch her children eat, laugh and smile. This thought, certainly, renewed MY spirit.

The holidays shouldn't be lost in the money and material trappings, but instead, be encompassed with love, faith and joy. We spend money every year on things that will be put on a shelf, broken or forgotten.

This year, spend a little on food and donate it. Purchase a gift for a child. A gift for a child who would otherwise not receive one.

Bring the magic and spirit of Christmas to someone who's life it will REALLY touch. That, my friends, is a gift that will NEVER be forgotten, put on a shelf or broken.

Remember the Little Match Girl. Remember HER 'song'.

An act of kindness not only affects the life of the ones who receive, but of those who give. And, for those who observe such self-LESS-ness of one, and joy of another, is in itself, a priceless gift. For that I am thankful.

This morning we got to do an on-air interview w/ Sonja on Eagle 103.9 in Astoria, Oregon. It was awesome being able to talk about what "Nineteen" means to us and getting to hear how it is affecting listeners. .
Sonja has 19 year old son who is a Marine and will soon be going to Iraq to serve our country. She was the first person to contact us after hearing "Nineteen" on The After Midnite w/ Blair Garner Program. She's been a huge supporter of Waycross and "Nineteen" so thank you her and The Eagle.

We found out last Friday that the video for "Nineteen" is getting put into the rotation on GAC. As if this news wasn't good enough, we got a call Monday and were invited to be part of an interview segment on GAC called "On The Streets" hosted by Suzanne Alexander. The show is awesome and focuses on new and upcoming artists and new videos.
We did the interview on July 3rd and it will start airing on GAC July 17th. It was an incredible honor to be invited to be a part of "On The Streets" and even more of an honor to get to meet Suzanne and the rest of the crew that make things happen there.
Thanks GAC for inviting us on the show and for spreading the message of our song "Nineteen"! You guys are awesome!

It had our picture beside the chart information and also a little blurb about the song and its success. MORE HISTORY ON MEMORIAL DAY
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely observed on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers. On May 5, 1868, Logan declared in General Order No. 11 that:

The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.
During the first celebration of Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, after which 5,000 participants helped to decorate the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried in the cemetery.

This 1868 celebration was inspired by local observances of the day in several towns throughout America that had taken place in the three years since the Civil War. In fact, several Northern and Southern cities claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day, including Columbus, Miss.; Macon, Ga.; Richmond, Va.; Boalsburg, Pa.; and Carbondale, Ill.

In 1966, the federal government, under the direction of President Lyndon Johnson, declared Waterloo, N.Y., the official birthplace of Memorial Day. They chose Waterloo—which had first celebrated the day on May 5, 1866—because the town had made Memorial Day an annual, community-wide event during which businesses closed and residents decorated the graves of soldiers with flowers and flags.

By the late 1800s, many communities across the country had begun to celebrate Memorial Day and, after World War I, observances also began to honor those who had died in all of America's wars. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be celebrated the last Monday in May. (Veterans Day, a day set aside to honor all veterans, living and dead, is celebrated each year on November 11.)

Today, Memorial Day is celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery with a ceremony in which a small American flag is placed on each grave. Also, it is customary for the president or vice-president to give a speech honoring the contributions of the dead and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. About 5,000 people attend the ceremony annually.

Several Southern states continue to set aside a special day for honoring the Confederate dead, which is usually called Confederate Memorial Day:

When THE RING TWO, starring Naomi Watts, premiered in ASTORIA, NNB RADIO sponsored it and donated proceeds to our community's local project for the children. The TAPIOLA PARK PROJECT.

It was only one of the many events we participated in to help in our own community.

The project was to build a new and improved playground, that depicted many of the historical points in our area. It is now finished and is great! Children go play at Tapiola Playground in Astoria and are able to play in 'Fort Clatsop' cross the 'Megler Bridge'...play at the 'Astor Column' a Victoria House , boats and much more! As they play..the learn history as well!

I MET TY IN NASHVILLE HE'S A KIND, FUNNY AND AMAZING TALENT. HE DECIDED TO TAKE A BREAK WHEN HE WAS ON TOP WITH HIS CAREER ....

NOW, HE'S BACK WITH A NEW ALBUM AND RENEWED SPIRIT. HE IS ON FIRE !!

When I met Ty, we had a blast and laughed so much! It was one of the highlights of my trip to CRS in Nashville.

...INTERVIEW TIME..?

My feet were killing me, so I was happy when TY plopped down on the floor in the hall, YAY my feet were getting a rest!

We were going to do the interview in the hall, because it would be quieter than the noisy Media Room....HA! ...NOT the case. ....It was Check-Out time for that day...

Guests were stepping over us, saying hello, we were commenting on there purses, belts, clothing....giving compliments, asking if they'd like to join our interview.... It was hysterical.

Then people we knew would come by and hollar, 'Hey, from Texas..." or they'd stop and start making plans for meeting up later in the day, or discuss which show was going to be the best to go to later... oh, the decisions!! ......

Oh, and the INTERVIEW....!?!

We finally did get through it, but by the time I edited all of the chatter out and played it for all of you on the air...out of the 30 minutes that the recorder was on....I ended up with 5 minutes of interview! Good Grief! :)

After the interview, we visited, took pictures and NO, we didn't play in the elevators....we perused the housekeeping's cart when the maid wasn't looking... (not, really, she saw us...she was laughing too) The pink feather duster was the most popular item on the cart!

It really was funny. It was an 'interview' I'll never forget!

We lost ‘one of our own’ not too long ago, Army Spc Brian Browning, killed in Bahgdad, during active duty. A sad time for our community. Sadness of losing such a young man, son, brother, friend, soldier.... will always leave a hole in the hearts of a community for those who knew him and those who didn’t...he was a hero....and will NEVER be forgotten...

After I posted a tribute on the website to Brian and included the poem that was printed inside the announcement at Brian's Memorial..

I was happy and surprised to hear from the author of the poem,

"You clearly saw the outpouring from the community," said Brian's father, Perry Browning, at a reception after the ceremony. "We had old friends, new friends, the parents of soldiers in Brian's unit. ... The support has been phenomenal…."

The funeral was led by the Oregon National Guard in Camp Rilea's Memorial Warrior Hall, after a procession through downtown Astoria led by the Patriot Guard motorcycle unit, police cars from local cities, the Sheriff’s Department local firefighters and the Oregon state police, with community lined up on the streets to show their respects to a hometown hero, as the motorcade passed.

A large group of dignitaries, several branches of law enforcement, military, friends and family. Our community paid their respects and said farewell to one of our own fallen soldiers. The son of Perry and Paula Browning., Army specialist Brian Browning, who died during active duty in Iraq.

The ceremony began with the sound of bagpipes by the Portland Police Bureau Highland Band. A touching slide show to the song, by Lee Greenwood, ‘God Bless the USA’, brought tears and some laughs as Brian Browning was shown growing up as a child into the soldier he became.

Governor Kulongoski, called Browning a soldier and Hero that our Nation and community could be proud of. A young man of only 20 years old, who died Feb. 6 in Iraq, offers hope to other young men and women looking to improve their own lives. Browning's death has brought dark clouds and grief to the North Coast and to Oregon. Kulongoski also wished that our community soon see a rainbow, after such a dark day like today. "When we see rainbows, we see their colors and read the unmistakable message of hope….Life is a rainbow which also includes black…..As we gather to mourn a young man who was the best Oregon could give, we know these words are true." He ended his comments with God Bless Brian’s friend’s and family this community and May God Bless the USA, then Kulongoski then presented the family with the State of Oregon flag.

Maj. Gen. Fred Rees thanked Spc. Browning for his service and "nobility." "Thank you for honoring us, the people of the United States," said Rees. "Thank you for putting service before self, putting your mission first and never admitting defeat."

On behalf of the President of the United States, members of the United States Army presented, Browning’s parents with the Purple Heart for wounds he received in action…the ultimate sacrifice for our Country and the Bronze Star for meritorious service,

The family was also presented the Army good conduct medal, The Iraq Campaign Medal service medal, the Global war on Terror medal and the Combat Infantryman’s badge.

The service concluded , with Brian’s parents, being presented with the American flag that draped their son’s Coffin. With hands over hearts and all military and law enforcement saluting during the rifle salute and while a single bugle played Taps ....a community said their final farewell to our own hometown hero. Army Specialist, Brian Browning.

Spc. Brian Browning was a part of a long family history of military service. Brian's father, Perry, served in the Navy, his grandfather Roy retired from the U.S. Navy, his uncle Doug retired from the Army. His uncle Leon is retired Army National Guard and TJ, his cousin is currently in the Oregon National Guard.

Two amazing shows, once again, at the LIBERTY Theater in Astoria with PHIL VASSAR! One of my favorite artists, as well as a favorite of EAGLE listeners …. it was a no-brainer that we were going to have a great time! I have received e-mails from everywhere thanking THE EAGLE and our sponsors for bringing Phil Vassar back to Astoria.

I hadn’t seen Gordon or Phil, since Jerry & I headed to the Country Jam this summer, so on a personal note, it was great to see everyone again. Being in Astoria for 2 days this time, Phil and crew, were able to enjoy our corner of history here on the coast and relax a bit before heading back off again, for more appearances, concerts and everything that goes along with the hectic life of a #1 hit-making country star, singer/songwriter, Emmy nominated, award winning, entertainer, who always gives his fans, his all.

This year, it was PHIL, his piano, guitar player and manager that came out. Without the full band, Country’s own, ‘Piano Man’- PHIL was very talkative with the audience and was HYSTERICAL… our EAGLE listeners got a treat to interact so much with Phil and experience his talent and good nature, first hand and in person.

He was so kicked back and personable with the audience, not that he isn’t always, but he really had fun with all of you between and during songs. Oh! And let’s not forget, the sing-a-long….‘Summer Lovin’ from the movie GREASE! It was award winning for all of us that sang along! Ha-ha!

At a remote downtown on Saturday morning that I was working, it was a beautiful sunny day. Phil stopped to chat, while he also had the blue tooth connected to his ear, always busy, he was looking comfortable in his running gear... checking out our little town....I found out later that night at the show that he went to the Astor Column and RAN up the spiral stairs (164 of them) to the top. It was a busy day (weekend) but SO much FUN!

Friday night was a PHIL VASSAR show...Saturday morning? I headed on down to RADIO SHACK where QWEST was offering great deals and giving away all kinds of fun things! Jim Sorvino, head of regional sales for NNB and I had a really great time! Jim has always a pleasure to work with and
always smiling!

Representatives from QWest were great and were extremely nice women. They spent all afternoon setting people up with great deals. It was an all around great remote!

During the remote, here came Phil Vassar, we chatted a bit and he was off having a good time cruising around our little town of Astoria getting to relax and kick back before his 2nd show that night at the Liberty Theater.

We hit the road and had a blast at the acoustic jam at the Bagdad Theater in Portland, OR. October being BATTERED WOMEN’S AWARENESS MONTH, it was a
benefit with proceeds going to the Shepard’s Door which helps women and children.

Our “Mississippi brother”, STEVE AZAR was performing, so it was a show Jerry and I couldn’t miss!

STEVE HOLY, STEVE AZAR, SARA BUXTON, ASHLEY MOORE and buddy JESSE CAIN, all performed.

STEVE Azar took us to Mississippi and we rocked Delta style, Steve Holy was surprised during his performance of , “Brand New Girlfriend”. Sarah Buxton and Ashley Monroe performed songs that had people cheering and crying...

When Jerry and I got to town, Steve and the guys were next door to the theater having dinner, so I walked in and asked, loudly and with a drawl, “Is there some guy here from Mississippi?” After the hugs and hello’s… Jerry and I joined Jason, Mark, Steve and a whole table of people who were nice to meet. We chit-chatted and had fun catching up until it was show time.

Steve said he has been working and had been running on no sleep, but he looked great and was excited about the new video for the single “You Don’t Know a Thing” premiering on http://www.cmt.com/ last week. You can view the video on CMT anytime, type in Steve Azar, click and go!

"You Don’t Know A Thing," was co- written by Azar and Radney Foster and is the debut single from Azar’s forthcoming CD, INDIANOLA scheduled for release in early 2007 on Dang/Midas Records.

It was a riot when, unsuspecting Steve Holy was performing or getting ready to and the suggestion to have a little fun with him cropped up among everyone ‘backstage’.....

Sarah and I were chatting away, when she says, “Oh! Sonja, you have to see the wig I got today!” She pulls out this Halloween costume that is a Raggedy-Ann costume. Someone then piped up and suggested Sarah go put her costume on and prance onto the stage when Steve started singing, “Brand New Girlfriend”….Sarah was TOTALLY up for it!

We were all laughing hysterically, as Sarah comes out wearing this costume..I went down side stage with Sarah and here you see only a few of the great pictures I got…

You should have seen Steve’s face when he first saw her behind him on stage it was priceless. Sarah really played it up and she is certainly a woman with a personality. Quite the blast! Much credit goes to Steve though...he didn’t miss a beat, he inserted Sarah’s name were he could in the song and played right along.

STEVE HOLY, was a pleasure to meet and was another great part of the show. When Sarah came out though, dressed as Raggedy Ann, the crowd went wild…they were already on their feet for ‘Brand New Girlfriend’…but the timing was perfect and everyone loved it….‘Sweet, Sweet, Sweet….Cute, Cute, Cute…!’

All in all the night was perfect! We got to see friends and meet a lot of really fun, great people.

The COFFEE GIRL! Zetty McKay!

Our 'own' Coffee Girl. Zetty worked at NNB Radio with one of The EAGLE's sister stations, KAST 1370 AM and the CoastWatch News Team.

Although we were all sad to see her go, it was exciting to hear the idea...then watch her 'make it happen'. Her own coffee shop!

Being located on the Historic 39th St. Pier, she has the best view in town, not to mention coffee! Her place is wireless, so you laptop lovers, can get your work, or internet 'surfing' done while you enjoy a cup of coffee. Your 4-legged friends are welcome outside on the beautiful waterfront area as well!

Zetty has expanded to lite breakfast and lunches and the atmosphere is one of true calm and beauty.

Recently, I had the opportunity to broadcast for another of our sister stations, KAST FM 99.7 for a live radio remote with one of our AE's Marty. We had a really great time and gave away some fantastic prizes, from the Coffee Girl. Zetty sold alot of coffee and homemade scones! Yes, Zetty makes everything she can from scratch ...just like Grandma used to do!

An Interesting bit...
The HISTORY of the COFFEE GIRL....

The Coffee Girl opened in January 2006, but the history goes back more than a century.

The former cannery, Pier 39, where Coffee Girl is located, often times had a girl/lady assigned to make coffee, clean the break room, do laundry, and other chores. Coffee Girl owner, Zetty McKay, also worked at the cannery in the late 90's as... none other than a coffee girl. So when it came time to naming her new coffee shop, it was a natural. Now there's a new generation of coffee girls making their mark! THANK YOU to our listeners and Zetty for a great day and succesful remote! It's always fun to get out and see you all in person!

On a personal note: I miss Zetty here at the station...she was the only other on-air 'chick' that I worked with everyday and I guess it was a 'girl thing'.. but not to despair, I go see her for a bit of respite at Pier 39, enjoy the view and conversation, now it's a 'Coffee Girl' thing!

OH! and I can't forget! Zetty has a secret (well, not SO secret) self-proclaimed, FLOWER FAIRY that always brings her the beautiful flowers for her shop... aren't dad's great?

JASON ALDEAN - Another SOLD OUT Eagle Concert!

JASON ALDEAN and another SOLD OUT Show in EAGLE COUNTRY!

With 'Hicktown' and 'Why' as Jason's first hits, bringing him to gold status, as well as being named Best New Male Vocalist of the year and his new single, 'Amarillo Sky' climbing the charts, we knew it would be a great show and it was!

The crowd was on their feet most of the night, rock'in to Jason.

We had run a contest for two weeks during the EAGLE COUNTRY CAFE' noon hour, qualifying people to win two VIP Jason Aldean tickets, two meet and greet passes to meet Jason and dinner for two to Fulio's Tuscan Steak House and Pastaria. People had to sing me part of a Jason Aldean song and after the two weeks were up, we chose the winner out of the 'hat'...the Lucky winner was Peggy Crom. She was thrilled and took her son Ian with her.

They are HUGE Eagle fans and have attended about every concert we have put on! It was awesome to see the smiles on their faces all night!

Jason was a pleasure to meet. I am sure he'll continue to do well in his career!

One of the most enjoyable parts during the evening, for me though was greeting all of you EAGLE LISTENERS, before the show. I think it's great to see and hear the excitement from all of you about what we are doing here at the EAGLE!... I met those of you who had never been to a concert, to those of you who wouldn't miss one for the world! THANK YOU for your support!

The COUNTRY JAMBOREE at the CLARK COUNTY AMPITHEATER….

Thanks to Kris Gallucci of The Clark County Amphitheater! He gave THE EAGLE tons of tickets to give to our EAGLE LISTENERS and we had many excited listeners! After the SOBEE NO FEAR GIVEAWAY, it was in the car for us and off to rock, country style, for a weekend full of awesome music.

One of the biggest highlights of the weekend for me was seeing so many of our EAGLE LISTENERS who won tickets earlier in the week! After talking with many of you, it was great to know you were enjoying the concerts as much as I was! It was so much fun to see smiles on your faces!

It's a blast being able to listen toyour reactions when you win giveaways from The EAGLE, but nothing beats seeing you in person!

Of course another highlight of the weekend for me was seeing PHIL VASSAR again and funny enough, ending up on stage singing with Little Big Town, PHIL VASSAR and friends!

We ran into some of Phil’s friends that my husband and I met last year. We saw Gordon, Phil’s manager as well (great guy!). We all chatted for awhile and headed backstage with Gordon and Logan (Love you Logan!) before the end of Phil’s show.

Jerry and I were enjoying Phil’s show in the wings with a group of people that were there and the members of Little Big Town.

Before we knew it, Phil’s telling us all to come out and sing with him…so we all did! We all left the stage, then Phil had us all come out again to sing and dance along. After the show, we headed back to Phil’s green room and it was great to see him again. . He did some promo’s for me, then we all chatted until Phil had to take off on a red-eye.

Such nice people..Gordon, Phil and the whole bunch. They are all TRULY kind individuals who are fun and just, ‘good people’.

OH! and just a reminder.... Phil’s coming through EAGLE COUNTRY Nov 10th and 11th. One of the most anticipated shows of the year. Get your tickets RIGHT AWAY. Tickets WILL sell out!

During the course of the weekend I had the opportunity to meet alot of great entertainers in country music. HOT APPLE PIE, was great in concert, John McEuin of the NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND, was an HONOR meet. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has been around 40 years now and they aren’t missing a lick and American Idol winner, CARRIE UNDERWOOD. She was amazing sweet and has quite the set of 'pipes', but I don't have to tell you that!

THE OAKRIDGE BOYS were awesome and KENNY RODGERS was hysterical. I think all those years on the road with Dolly Parton, rubbed off on him! My girlfriend and I laughed through the whole show and just loved it! Kenny sounded just like his albums, but better.

It was a great weekend...what else can I say!

Whoever got the key that opened the lock on the scooters, would win them both! Tom, Stephanie, Matt, Danny and I headed off to Seaside’s Broadway Park to host a free BBQ w/free beverages, and other giveaways, sponsored by Cindy Hawkins of Windermere Realty. Our GM Paul Mitchell was there as well, to congratulate the winner. The fun began! We helped people register, the crowd started to gather and the tension was mounting! There were over 100 keys, and it was great to see everyone turn out. The week before at Ponds and Beyond. A husband and wife both took turns spinning the wheel and they both ended up qualifying to win. They ended up being the big winners! (Well, SHE won…but they were His and Hers scooters after all!) When it came time to trying their keys, his didn’t work. She went next and her key opened the lock!

The lucky winner was Lynda Easter! It was so fun to see! I thought she was going to have a heart attack! Congratulations Lynda! It was a fun promotion and a great day. It’s always fun watching people win and those scooters were SO nice…90 miles to the gallon? I WANT ONE!

We had such a GREAT time. Ponds and Beyond is always such a fun place to go. Lorelei and everyone at Ponds and Beyond are down to earth and fun to work with. We took the SoBe No Fear Scooters, giving people the opportunity to spin the wheel of winning and qualify to win the scooters.

Just about everyone who spun the wheel qualified for the giveaway that day, for the following weekend at Broadway park in Seaside.

Lorelei had tons of great deals and prices for customers who came in that day. Lorelei specializes in water features, ponds and anything to do with water! At the remote, in between people coming by, we found this pink …thing… that I was dared to put on my head… so I did

No, it wasn’t a shower cap, we weren’t quite sure what it was, but it made for a good laugh and who am I to turn down a harmless dare?!

RYAN SHUPE and the RUBBERBAND!

What a fun group! RYAN and THE RUBBERBAND! They all came into the studio and joined me live on the EAGLE COUNTRY CAFÉ. We had nothing really planned, so it was a really fun show! We talked a bit about the group and their songs, but it turned to THE GOONIES!

Growing up in Astoria, I get a kick out of the excitement people have for the whole Goonie thing! I guess I’ve taken it for granted a bit, having lived here and being here when the movie was filmed.

I had to share the story of when I was in high school, I ended up meeting the cast, Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen and others, with some friends of mine. So, the whole time they were here, we all hung out together.

Steve Antin, (he played the jerk ‘Troy’ in the movie ) rented a car, came to my house, met my parents, and even went to the 'new fancy McDonalds. :) We all just had a great time hanging out, so it’s always funny to me when people come to town, can’t wait to see the Goonie’s house and ask all about it.

Well, Rodger Archibald of the Rubberband, started quoting lines from Goonie’s and his impersonations of the characters was hysterical. So, from music to the Goonies for an hour’s show was funny.

They found the ‘Bunny Suicide’ joke books in the studio and had a good time with that too, so the interview was just a unique experience that was very down to earth and fun.

Before the interview was over, we decided to have a contest at the concert that night. We decided to name it the "RYAN SHUPE & THE RUBBERBAND, ROCK’EM, SOCK’EM, ROBOT TOUR, TRUFFLE SHUFFLE CONTEST” If you’ve seen the Goonie’s then you know about ‘Chunk’ and the Truffle Shuffle. It’s when you lift your shirt, grab all of the excess belly you can and shake it up and down… very funny! That night we held the contest. 7 people got on stage and did the ‘truffle shuffle’ The crowd chose the winner, who got a signed CD from the Band. Wow. It was something else! We have such GREAT sports in EAGLE COUNTRY!!

The band was great and their music rocks. Jesse Cain opened for them and did a great job. Ryan and the Rubberband has a great album, Dream Big, check it out, if you haven’t already. My favorites..’Simplify’, ‘Banjo Boy’ and ‘Dream Big’.

I went to lunch with them earlier in the day and had a great lunch at THE BAKED ALASKA . Ryan’s wife was there with Ryan’s little girl, who is a doll and looks JUST like daddy.

After the show, we had more great food and service at the SCHOONER’s Twelfth St. Bistro, right next to the Liberty.
We Had another great show, with another great group of talented, fun people. RYAN SHUPE & THE RUBBERBAND! I hope they come back, they were a blast!

BRYAN WHITE at the CLATSOP COUNTY FAIR!

BRYAN WHITE put on a great show at the fair this year and was genuinely a very nice person to be around. He came out with two other guys from his band who were lots of fun. Bryan played some of his older favorites and some of his new songs. Bryan was on a 6-year hiatus and is BACK! He took time off during the height of his career, to get married and have a family. People came out and were so excited to see him back on the road singing and playing here in EAGLE COUNTRY!

If you read the previous story about Jesse Cain, you know what Bryan did for Jesse to make Jesse’s dream come true. Bryan was so kind to all of us, but took extra time to spend with Jesse and when he invited Jesse to sing with him on stage, the crowd loved it. I was so impressed by Bryan. He has had hit after hit, but still remembers what it was like when he was younger and idolized Steve Wariner. He ‘passed it forward’ and made a huge difference in Jesse’s life that night, and I think also showed the crowd that dreams do come true…you just can’t ever give up. Bryan and Jesse signed autographs and took pictures with fans for at least an hour…they signed for anyone and everyone that was there and wanted one. It was great!

After the show, Jesse and I went with Bryan and the guys to FULIO’S Tuscan Steak House and Pastaria in downtown Astoria. Peter Roscoe, owner and chef, kept the restaurant open just for us and prepared us delicious meals and desserts.

Dinner was amazing. No surprise if you’ve ever eaten at Fulio’s. One of the guys, Joey, eye-spied an old piano and went over and started playing. The 5 of us stood around the piano, sang everything from Classic rock and the Judd’s, to the theme to the Jetson’s and Gilligan’s Island.

It was wild and every one of us sang, on and off key and just had a ball. When I talked to Joey a few weeks later, he said it was a highlight of their year; being at FULIO’S just messing around having fun. It definitely was a great time.

Peter, smoked his cigar, sat back and just watched us have fun. We didn’t leave until midnight and Peter was so gracious. He said got a kick out of it and enjoyed the evening. I know we all did!

Another Dream Comes True! JESSI CAIN Opens for BRYAN WHITE!

More dreams come true! When Bryan White was booked to open this years CLATSOP COUNTY fair, I thought of my friend, Jesse Cain. First of all the excitement that BRYAN WHITE was coming and the excitement I knew Jesse would have when he found out! Jesse, extremely talented and kind, played with me when I opened for Joe Diffie. We became friends and the dedication and support he gave me when I was getting ready for DIFFIE, we had lots of time to chat.

I knew two of Jesse’s hero’s and biggest musical influences were Garth Brooks and Bryan White.

Jesse had already had the opportunity to sing with Garth when he was younger and got some great advice from the Super-Star, Brooks. So, when BRYAN WHITE was booked, I went to our GM, Paul and asked if it would be alright if Jesse opened for Bryan White. When he said, ’yes’ I could barely wait to call Jesse’s mom!

That night, when Jesse got home from work, his mom had me on her cell phone, which was on speakerphone, in her pocket, so I could hear.

She asked Jesse how he’d like to go see Bryan White perform and I giggled as I heard him get excited, asking where he was playing, etc…Then his mom asked, “How would you like to open for him?” Even though her phone cut out half way through his reaction, (aaaahhhh!) A few moments later Jesse was on the other end of the phone, beside himself and just in disbelief that he would be opening for his other ‘hero’. A few tears of joy were in his voice as well and I was SO happy for him.

When I interviewed Bryan before the concert, I told him about Jesse and Bryan said it was so flattering to be ‘on the other end’, because when he was a kid, Steve Wariner was his musical hero and he knew exactly what Jesse was feeling. Bryan went on to say that when he met Steve Wariner, he could barely sleep that night and later in life, when he worked with Steve, he said it was still hard to be himself and not catch himself thinking, “I am sitting here with Steve Wariner”!

The night of the show came and Bryan was incredible to Jesse. They hung out in the back trailer and the highlight for Jesse, was when Bryan asked him to come on stage and sing with him. Jesse was all smiles and did a great job. He sang with Bryan White!! I barely kept a dry eye, knowing what it feels like for dreams to come true…and I had just witnessed a huge moment in a person’s life I respect and admire.

I told our GM, Paul, “you did it again…you helped make another dream come true”. Paul being so humble and kind just brushed it off and said, “ahh, he did great..It was great.”

Jesse is going places and keep your eye on him…He will be a name you’ll hear all over the world someday. Sounds corny? Wait and see…

The EAGLE gave away tickets to some of the different concerts and the Pig-N-Ford races at the Tillamook County Fair this year again. I had a great time as we ‘left the EAGLE’S Nest’ and you all took a flight on down the coast to the Billy Dean Concert with me.I saw some of you that won tickets at the concert, which is always fun and Billy put on a great show!

I took My daughter Jodi with me again and Joven, (from Joe and Joven’s Pick of the Day) came along too. After the show, Jodi and I went back and had the opportunity to meet Billy and the rest of the band. Jodi and I actually talked with the guys for quite awhile and I got an impromptu, hysterical, interview with the band….that later I found out didn’t record, because it was dark and I pushed the wrong button.

I was so mad, but now have a small flashlight hanging from my key chain. You would have all enjoyed it, but sometimes a golden egg, ends up breaking. The hazards of living in a nest!

I did find out some inside info on a member of Jason Aldean’s band….one of the guys from Billy’s band, has a brother that plays with Jason Aldean. It’s a secret now, but I’ll let it out later at the Aldean show…. Anyway, Jodi and I had a blast chatting with the band and Billy. All very talented, funny and really very nice.

After we were done visiting, Jodi, Joven and I went to the carnival at the fair and I went on the Octopus ride…alone…and probaply embarrassed myself but didn’t care!
I got on that ride, and laughed, screamed and giggled like a little kid out loud, and I’m not a quiet person!! Jodi thought it was ‘cute’, I thought she’d die before being seen with her crazy mom after I got off the ride, but she wasn’t.
The best therapy for a bad day? The Octopus ride at a carnival!!! Astoria? Let’s build a theme park!

The Crew of The Maverick are actually locals from Astoria and having known Donna 'Boat MOM' Quashnick, for many years, it was good to see her again! (Rick was off on a boat somewhere)
Jeff and Gretchen were doing great with life in general and selling Maverick Seafood. People at the event were able to taste fresh crab and buy it if they wanted. REGATTA PARADE! NNB has a GREAT Time!

THE REGATTA PARADE!

We had SO much fun and it was great to see our community lined up and down the streets of Astoria celebrating this yearly event.

From amazing floats, to kids and different organizations walking, or riding to the Clydesdales, it was another successful parade. NNB Radio participated this year and were so happy we did.

Our General Manager, Paul Mitchell and his wife Joyce were there along with friends. Also, there wearing a sweaty red clown nose, was our news guy Michael Desmond, his wife and his kids. Stephanie and her nephew were there with Stephanies amazing dog, Ernastine, who stands up and ‘gives you ten’! Tom Freel was on main street, broadcasting and my daughter Jodi and I rode the "SOBEE NO FEAR" Scooters, that we have been giving people the opportunity to win at our remotes that we’ve held at different businesses throughout the Clatsop and Pacific Counties.

We’ll be there again next year and appreciated you, our listeners, letting us know you were there with your shouts of hello, cheers and clapping as we went by. Thank YOU so much. It’s so nice to see some of the faces we talk to everyday!

What an incredible show!!

IF YOU MISSED NEAL NCcOY..YOU MISSED OUT!

There is a reason why Neal McCoy has been voted Entertainer of the year twice, received EVERY fan voted award there is to get, been honored with two humanitarian awards, only to name a few... the list goes on!

The band was funny, played great music and entertained a theater full of people who were on their feet before he even hit the stage.

They ARE entertainers. No doubt about it!

I was so impressed with the fact that Neal took the time to stand back stage for a bit and listen to opening act Cherish Medina, all while smiling and cheering her on.

When she dedicated 'Traveling Soldier' to our son, who was leaving for Marine boot camp on Aug 14th, I couldn't keep a dry eye and had to leave backstage and go outside!

Neal was there and said to me, "Be proud..be proud..he'll be alright" Neal takes 3 USO tours a year, to bring our soldiers, wherever they may be, a bit of home.... What more can I say. Another great show at the Liberty Theater and another down to earth artist, who cares about people, is genuine and proves it through his actions and contributions. :)

STEVE AZAR- Mississippi Boy Back in EAGLE Country!

MISSISSIPPI Brother back in town! We had 2 great shows with Steve and the guys, a succesful remote with Cingular Wireless and still time left over just to hang out and kick back.

The guys, being here for 2 days, had a chance to the see some sights here in Astoria and take in the beauty of our area. A favorite of Eagle listeners, Steve brought the house down both nights and people loved it! He took us on a musical journey through the Mississippi Delta, played his hits that everyone knew and another big treat was getting to hear some of his new songs off his, unreleased album, 'Indianola'.
The crowd was on their feet and after 2 encores, the guys broke into a jam of old rock n' roll tunes...it was awesome!

Jerry and I celebrated our anniversary that weekend, in fact Jerry picked them up from the airport ON our anniversary. Steve was very kind and dedicated the song, 'You're My Life' off the 'Indianola' album, Jerry and I never had 'a song'. We DO NOW! It will always be a very special moment for Jerry and I.

Jason(drums) Mark (guitar) and brother /manager of Steve all were just a blast. Jason was intrigued that there was a marble store in town and thought it was so cool, that there was a store just for marbles in town...it was funny. Steve and i took a walk downtown and ran "an errand.. " (Steve, I'll never tell... hee,hee) Joe was on the phone constantly, doing business and Mark relaxed.

After the Friday night show, we had a great dinner at the Baked Alaska with Paul our GM and then out for a bit to celebrate our anniversary.

When it was all said and done, it was another great show for the EAGLE and personally, for us a good time spent with friends.

Saturday night we took them back to the airport, stopped at our house to compare bassett hounds, (if your from the South, they say you've gotta have a hound dog!) and off they went ...back to work, on the road!

They're staying busy and that is so great to see. Steve's new single, 'You Don't know a Thing' was released in June and has been climbing the charts...the video is out now too, so check it out. You can do that on www.cmt.com

CINGULAR WIRELESS- Autograph Signing

It was a big day Saturday afternoon at Cingular Wireless in Warrenton! We had an autograph-signing event with Jessica Andrews and Steve Azar. People were lined up for an hour before they arrived and the event was great!

Cingular sold a record amount of contracts in one day and they put on a great event for us. Refreshments and very accommodating, we all had a successful remote. Our EAGLE listeners came out in droves to support us and were very happy that Steve and Jessica took the time to speak with everyone and take pictures with fans.

It was another successful event; Steve and Jessica had fun talking to and meeting all of you. Thanks to those of you who came by!

JESSICA ANDREWS-Our First ‘CHICK’ in Eagle Country!

Jessica opened for STEVE AZAR when they came out for two shows at the Liberty in Astoria. Two great artists, two incredible shows.

Jessica was so funny. At breakfast Saturday morning after they got here, my husband was there with everyone, chatting, eating, just having fun.

Well, There is a certain song of Jessica’s Jerry came to …well…not care for, because it had been my “I’m mad at you song.” He joked around and said he was going to tell her, so I dared him to. HE DID!

She thought it was hysterical when he told her that, “ he knew his wife was not happy with him when he heard, (Jessica’s hit song,) "There’s More To Me Than You" playing at high volume and that if he came home, he knew he might as well not even go in the house if he heard it from the front porch! So, THAT was why it wasn’t his FAVORITE song” They had a good laugh.

What was funnier was that night at the show, Jessica played that song, pointed at me and said,"hey, Sonja you like this song….it makes a good song when your…uhh… mad at your husband”

Jessica has a sense of humor and had the crowd laughing hysterically several times. She talked about her beloved dog, her very talented singer/songwriter boyfriend Marcel, who has written for many country artists and Jessica truly just seemed to have a great time.

She has been singing since she was a little girl and with hits like, “Who I Am”, “There’s More To Me Than You”, she has a long future in front of her, especially with the taste our EAGLE listeners got of the new music she has been performing....

Her whole album is great and gets played a lot in our house. (No, not because I'm mad...:) ...that's only sometimes!) Her voice is like an angel. She’s beautiful, witty, funny and very kind.

One of the most incredible shows I have been to when it comes to pyrotechnics and energy!Patriotism to the HILT!

This was the kick off of Toby's 'Big Throwdown 2 Tour' , in Portland, OR and Joe Nichols opened. Toby's video for 'Get Drunk and Be Somebody' video was filmed that night and it was a great time. They handed out these mugs that had a cartoon picture of Toby, with the name of the song 'Get Drunk and Be Somebody' on them. They had the crowd sway and sing along... later that night I had the opportunity to chat with Toby's manager and Toby signed my infamous ...full of signatures...guitar! (I have since FINALLY gotten a new one!)

As I sat around my living room with about 12 teenagers asking them for ideas, for my show...things to talk about, etc. Someone came up with Joe and Joven's Pick of the Day, for the Cafe'... sounded good to me, so here they are!

It started as a joke because Joe and Joven weren't REALLY country music listeners, but now they are listening to country music along with all of their other types of music!!
(I've even gotten Joven to go to 2 country concerts now...AND HE LIKED THEM!...he'll deny it..but it's true! ) Yep, the secrets out!

They call with a pick of the day everyday for the EAGLE Country Cafe'. They are two really great guys...being converted to country!!

DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!
When I got asked by our General Manager to open for Joe Diffie...I actually found myself saying to him, "Can I think about it?" Paul said, "sure."

I walked 3 steps down the hall...stood there for a minute and thought to myself, "what are you thinking! Sonja this is something you've always loved doing...you have the opportunity to sing, stupid.." So, I turned around and told Paul, I would be honored and thanked him for the opportunity.

See, 3 weeks before that, I literally broke the guitar I had been carrying around for 15 years... sounds nuts... but I was tired of the 'you failed' ghost following me around, when it came to my music... so I threw it away and "let it go"... I felt I was in an awesome job, why cry about not being out there singing?

I learned a great lesson...let it go. Things will work out, not always how you think, but they do. So, the joke was, I went home that night and had to ask my husband, Jerry, if I could borrow HIS guitar!!

I got home and got on the phone. I hadn't had a band in years! I called my dear friends, Michael and Lisa Kohlmeier, who had been my biggest supporters for years...they were rock and roll, but I'd have to turn them a bit country!! When I asked them if they'd be willing to help me out they said absolutly. I put Mike in charge of the band... We ended up with a great crew...Mike on Lead & Vocals, Lisa on Bass, My husband on guitar, Chris on Lead guitar and my buddy Jesse Cain on guitar www.jessecain.com , with Arbie on drums. We practiced every weekend, in Centralia, WA, for 3 months! An hour and a half drive each way, but it was so worth it. Mike, lisa and Jerry knew how important this was to me!

The night of the performance felt incredible...I was too excited to be nervous! (Although, I sing barefoot, from the fear of tripping on a cord and falling on my head in front of everyone!!)

The audience was SO supportive and interactive! We had the time of our lives and can't thank you EAGLE listeners for being SO kind!! We sang cover songs, and I sang a few originals too...my favorite, "Jodi's Song"... a song about my daughter and her sister..I brought them on stage during part of it and the response was very touching.. After the show My GM and OM Paul and Tom Freel came back stage and were so kind...Paul told us that we were opening for Dwight Yoakam if he came to town... Now that's a compliment! I had a blast and so did my dear, dear friends.. it was such a special night...

COLLIN RAYE...

Collin put on an incredible show at the Liberty and we were SO honored to have this calibur of artist come through EAGLE Country... Husband, Father, Singer, entertainer...the list just continues...

Collin treated the audience with hit after hit, but also, treated our General Manager's wife, Joyce, to a bit of a surprise... Joyce, being a huge fan of Collin and having met him before, was just thrilled to see him in concert again ! ... but her husband, our GM, Paul, had something in store for her. He had a small request of Collin. It was their Anniversary that night and he wanted it to be very special for Joyce so, to Joyce's surprise, Collin dedicated Joyce's favorite song to her, Wished Her and Paul Happy Anniversary and they danced. An audience, some with tear filled eyes and all others looked on with smiles. It was Great! To share such a wonderful moment....

(I KNOW , at least a FEW men had elbows in their ribs from their spouses, that night oooh-ing and ahh-ing about the romance of it! Wondering aloud why their husbands never did anything like that for them!!!)

The first winner of the popular show, “Nashville Star” proved to put on another great Eagle Show at the Liberty!

Lewis and Clark’s- Fort Clatsop had just, tragically, burned to the ground right before the bicentennial celebration. So at the last minute, we turned this concert into a fundraiser to help out where NNB Radio could.

We had a very successful auction. (Thanks to all of you who bid, donated and participated) We auctioned Phil Vassar’s jeans that he wore at his concert here, a guitar signed by buddy, the shirt he wore in concert that night, other memorabilia and all kinds of other really great auction items. www.visitftstevens.com

Buddy’s crew was great fun and really great to their fans. Buddy’s song ‘Lacey’s Song’- or a.k.a. ‘Help Pour Out the Rain’ has touched so many hearts…mine included and keeping a dry eye when he sang it live was hard! He's seems to be a dedicated family man who has a great faith in God. I was so impressed by who he is as a person. Kind, talented, humble.

What a great show. She was at the Tillamook County Fair in August 2005. A girlfriend and I took the drive, something 'girls' need to do sometimes, just...Take a road trip!! :)

I met Terri and her manager, soon to be husband Greg. All the while I marveled her BIG WHITE buses.. And SO many of them!

Terri was funny in concert, with quite the sense of humor! She played all of her hits, told stories about the songs and was just a great entertainer....BUT....
I went to take a picture and the dreaded, 'battery depleted' shows up on my camera screen. Yep, happened to me...Not realizing how fast digital cameras go through batteries, I ran out! However, one of Terri's band members saved the night and grabbed me some off the bus! I was extremely thankful! Let's say I learned my lesson about digital camera's !!!

So, the road trip with my friend was awesome and we rocked to ,"Girls Lie Too"...Among other Terri Clark hits!!

PHIL VASSAR-The crowd goes WILD!

PHIL VASSAR! Our first concert at the beautifully, renovated Liberty Theater. Phil and his crew were so much fun to hang out with and were crowd PLEASERS! People went nuts and it was a great time! They all enjoyed out community and raved about it's beauty!

I interviewed Phil a few days before the show and then right before he went on stage, he is fun, personable AND called me ‘honey’! (Ya gotta love that!!) After the show we all hung out on the bus and I had the, very cool opportunity to see his unreleased video for “ Good Ole Days”. Jerry was one of the drivers that night for the band, so we both had a great time with all of them.

I have to be honest though, I hadn’t realized just how MANY songs Phil had written for other artists that became hits, then his album ‘Shaken Not Stirred’ had taken off the way it did. It’s one of my favorite albums to date. You won’t want to miss him when he comes back in Nov of ’06.

STEVE AZAR Our 1st EAGLE Show

Our first EAGLE show!

STEVE AZAR!

Steve Azar at the Clatsop County Fair! We had a great time and it was a great show, well attended by our community!

On a personal note, it was fun for my husband and I because during my interview with Steve, I found out how close he was to Jerry’s family in Mississippi. Then Jerry found out that Steve attended the same college with some of Jerry’s cousins. Steve and Jerry were all Mississippi when they got to talking! I was a great time and we feel like we have made some great friends.

During the Show, Steve had been calling Jerry his Mississippi Brother…and from the stage pointed and said hello. We were side stage and Jerry was on Duty that night, so he was in his Deputy uniform. Well, Sheriff Bergin was attending the show. Twice already, Steve had joked with the crowd about not even being able to get arrested! Sheriff told Jerry that if Steve said it again he was under orders to go on stage and “lock him up”…Well, Steve said it again! To even my surprise and the crowds laughter, here comes Jerry with handcuffs out and walked right up on stage. He told Steve he was under direct orders, to 'lock him up', from the Sheriff, pointed him out and it was just something you couldn’t have planned better! The crowd laughed and Steve and the band loved it.

At dinner that night, they talked all Mississippi and when Jerry gets around fellow Mississippian’s…the ‘speak’ starts and it’s catchy!! We have kept in touch with Steve and his manager/brother Joe. Along with Mark and Jason, other members of the band, they are all some of the most down to earth, nice people that you’ll ever meet.
